Local Homegrown Produce Makes for Award Winning Menus

Many pubs and restaurants champion local produce, but not many can claim to have their own kitchen garden. For Neil and Gill it was always in their vision, in 2007 it became a reality, when over 100 tons of high grade soil was delivered to facilitate numerous raised beds, greenhouses were constructed too.

The kitchen garden now supplies the chefs with an abundance of herbs, salads and vegetables from early spring to late autumn. Chefs can be regularly seen harvesting, usuallly when crops are young, tender and high in flavour. An additional orchard provides for cherries, pears, walnuts and a variety of apples.

It dosen't end there, villagers provide their surplus homegrown produce too, various produce is traded for typically a pint or two of Adnams or a glass of Cabinet Sauvignon. The White Horse team are genuine advocates of local means fresh and it is clear the seasonal availability of such produce plays a fundamental part of their menu planning.

Neil and Gill's teenage son Luke has the responsibility of looking after the hybrid hens, attending to them before and after school. Customers book tables and order their free range eggs for collection at the same time, be sure to take some home with you.
